Carousel comes to The Society of Illustrators for a special MoCCA event on Saturday, June 15 at 3 pm.
This episode includes comics readings, illustrated songs, gag cartoons, and live drawing with: Jeffrey Lewis, Jason Little, Matthew Thurber, Lauren R. Weinstein, and host R. Sikoryak.
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Born and raised New Yorker Jeffrey Lewis is probably most known for his five albums of folk and rock and noise (on the Rough Trade record label), but when he’s not touring the world with his band he makes comic books, like his current self-published series Fuff, as well as sometimes writing, drawing and/or singing various projects for The New York Times, The Mountain Goats, The History Channel and others.
Jason Little is the author of the “Bee” graphic novels Motel Art Improvement Service andShutterbug Follies. He is presently at work on the third volume, entitled The Night Seminar.
Matthew Thurber lives and works in Ocean Hill, Brooklyn. His new book INFOMANIACS will be released by PictureBox in Fall 2013. Thurber was a 2010 NYFA fiction fellow for his graphic novel “1-800-MICE”. He makes films, animation, and music and co-curates Tomato House gallery.
Lauren R. Weinstein is a cartoonist who is still recovering from having a baby and moving to the suburbs of New Jersey. Her comic books include Girl Stories and The Goddess of War, and her work has been published in Kramer’s Ergot, The Ganzfeld, An Anthology of Graphic Fiction, and The Best American Comics of 2007 and 2010.
R. Sikoryak is the author of Masterpiece Comics (Drawn & Quarterly). He’s drawn for The Onion, The New Yorker, GQ, MAD, SpongeBob Comics, and Nickelodeon Magazine, among many other publications, as well as the TV series The Daily Show with Jon Stewart and Ugly Americans. He’s hosted Carousel since 1997.
